Election Day: What You Need To Know

Vote.

Today city residents will be casting ballots that will choose the city’s next mayor, councillors and school trustees.

Details on who the candidates are and other voting info can be found on our Thunder Bay Votes page as well.

Online

Online voting will be available until 8pm. Details on how to vote online are on your voter information card and here.


In Person

If going to vote in person, you will need to bring acceptable identification and your Voter Information Letter (VIL). Your VIL also has a free transit pass that you can use to get to and from your voting location today.


What Am I Voting For?

The following positions will be elected in 2022:

  • Mayor – 1 to be elected
  • At Large Councillors – 5 to be elected
  • Ward Councillors – 7 to be elected, one for each ward
  • School Board Trustees

Depending on your school support, you will elect trustees for one of the following school boards:

  • Lakehead District School Board – 8 trustees to be elected
  • Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board – 6 trustees to be elected
  • Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario – 1 trustee to be elected
  • Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales – 5 trustees to be elected
