The Salvation Army in Fort Frances is getting prepared for the holiday season.

It will begin accepting applications for its Christmas hamper program on October 31 until December 2.

Those seeking a hamper must register, in person, at the agency’s Scott Street location.

Identification cards of all household members are also required.

The Salvation Army is also soliciting the public support for its Adopt-a-Family and Support-a-Family programs.

Community and Family Service Coordinator Sue Larson says the Adopt-a-Family allows one to support a family through Christmas gifts and food.

“They pick the size of family they would like to adopt and basically they’re buying toys for the children, usually two gifts per child and then the food that they need for the Christmas holidays,” says Larson.

The number of people needed to help is dependent upon the number of registrants for the hamper program.

“Last year we ended up with over 230 hampers going out plus 29 families where we were able to adopt out.”

With the Sponsor-a-Family programs, supporters provide a set amount of money for the Salvation Army to buy presents and food for the family.

If you can assist this year, call (807) 291-0012 or email sue.larson@salvationarmy.ca.
