A major funding boost for the expansion of the Yarmouth Mariners Centre

A joint investment of $29.9 million was announced today at the arena.

The Feds will invest $15.9 million. Central Nova MP Sean Fraser says investing in infrastructure is a key part of their plan to grow Canada’s economy.

“It’s something that we continue to believe in because we know that when you invest in infrastructure it creates jobs in the short term but it leaves our communities to be stronger places to live in the long term.”

It’s the largest investment by the federal government to the Yarmouth area.

Meanwhile the province is investing $4 million and $10 million is coming from the Town and Municipality of Yarmouth and the Municipality of Argyle.

Leaders from all levels of government were at the arena for the announcement. Argyle MLA Colton LeBlanc says it’s important for the province to invest in multi-purpose facilities.

“As we work to grow our population in Nova Scotia in the years ahead multi-pupose facilities that serve families and communities are certainly part of the draw.”

The expansion will include a new fitness centre, aquatics centre, multi-purpose space and indoor walking track.

There’s no timeline yet on when it will be completed.
