Former Public School Board Director of Education Faces Hearing

By Adam Riley Oct 20, 2022 | 7:21 PM

Allegations of professional misconduct have been leveled against former Lakehead Public School Board Director of Education Ian MacRae.

The list of allegations involve incidents between MacRae and 21 individuals who are either Board employees or Board Trustees, and include incidents of inappropriate and unwelcome comments involving Board employees or Board Trustees, inappropriate comments about indigenous people, multiple incidents of sleeping while in meetings including an anti-racism meeting with stakeholders and during one involving cyber threats which had been made against a school, use of threatening language, and allegations of incidents of unwelcome touching.

All of which happened during MacRae’s tenure as Director of Education from June of 2014 until March of 2020.

MacRae announced his retirement in March of this year, which became official in August, and had attempted to run for the position of Trustee but was deemed ineligible.

If found guilty he could face several disciplinary actions including, a reprimand, suspension or revocation of his teacher’s licence, and a fine of up to a maximum of $5000.

A date for the hearing has not been set.
