Several fishermen and the RCMP are being sued by Mi’kmaw fishers.

Members of the Sipekn’katik First Nation filed the lawsuit in Nova Scotia Supreme Court last week.

It relates to tensions that rose in 2020, when the band launched a moderate livelihood fishery in St. Mary’s Bay.

The lawsuit says band members were subjected to threats, intimidation, harassment, physical assault and destruction of property.

It alleges the RCMP failed to take proper action to prevent the violence.

The suit has not yet been defended in court.
