The acting superintendent of Codiac RCMP outlined what the detachment is doing to stem the flow of illegal drugs and the open use of drugs in the city.

Ben Jolette told Moncton City Council that the province has funded a new integrated enforcement unit.

“It will be targeting specifically street level drugs. Two employees from Justice and Public Safety have been fully seconded to Codiac RCMP.”

In addition, Jolette said the province has also funded two new RCMP positions for Codiac detachment to work in the same unit.

“It’s going to be a good way to connect people to the services they need but also eliminate the day to day visibility of people using drugs.”

Jolette believed the new enforcement unit will net positive results and he will be reporting back to City Council with updates.
