The province’s NDP leader wants the Premier to help residents with the cost-of-living.

During Question Period Friday, Claudia Chender asked Tim Houston to provide financial relief to Nova Scotians.

Houston said it’s something his government is extremely concerned about.

“This is exactly why we’re making changes that are sustainable for the long-term. Increasing the wages for CCAs and ECEs and other Nova Scotians,” said Houston.

Chender said every Nova Scotian wants support, and many seniors have to sacrifice food to pay for medicine.

“What are the Premier’s plans to ensure that seniors can afford to take their prescriptions, stay healthy and stay out of hospital? And I’ll remind the Premier that the Seniors Care Grant doesn’t do it,” said Chender.

Houston said the grant provides up to one thousand dollars to help with other expenses.

He said they’ll continue to look for ways to help all Nova Scotians with the rising cost-of-living, in sustainable ways.
