As part of a recently announced $1 billion investment in business infrastructure from Walmart Canada, they will be undertaking significant renovations at eight locations in Nova Scotia.

In total Walmart plans to spend $330 million renovating 80 Canadian locations, including those in Nova Scotia.

The Nova Scotian renovations are expected to cost around $16 million.

The stores selected for renovations in Nova Scotia include;

  • Bridgewater
  • Antigonish
  • Yarmouth
  • Cole Harbour
  • Greenwood
  • New Glasgow Supercentre
  • Sydney River
  • Amherst

“Our local stores have never been more important than they are today, which is why we’re finding ways to improve them to better serve our customers,” said Tom Flaim, Walmart Canada Regional Vice President for Atlantic Canada. “Canadians have more shopping options than ever and our stores play a key role in fulfilling orders in-store, online, through mobile, pickup, or delivery. These investments will give our stores and associates the tools they need to offer a quick and convenient experience however customers choose to shop.”

Walmart Canada estimates that in total these investments in infrastructure will provide jobs for around 2,500 Canadians.

In addition to the renovations, the $1 billion dollar investment is also going towards the construction of a new distribution centre in Moncton, which will provide fresh and frozen groceries to 43 Walmart stores, and a new fulfillment centre in Quebec, which will serve as a delivery hub for millions of Atlantic customer orders.
