The name of Constable Heidi Stevenson will be added to a memorial honouring fallen officers in Halifax.

This Sunday marks the 40th annual Peace Officers’ Memorial which is held each year at Grand Parade.

Police say it honours those who died in the line of duty and serves as a reminder of their selflessness and determination to help others.

“This week, we lost two officers in the line of duty in Ontario – Constables Morgan Russell and Devon Northrup of the South Simcoe Police Service – who were killed when responding to a call for service,” said Halifax Police Chief Dan Kinsella in a news release. “As we honour those who lost their lives in the line of duty here in Nova Scotia, we salute peace officers everywhere who work courageously and selflessly in the service of their communities.”

A march will be held from Halifax Police Headquarters on Gottingen Street to Grand Parade ahead of the service at 1 p.m.

Stevenson was killed while trying to apprehend the gunman during the Nova Scotia mass shooting in April 2020.
