Nestor Falls Rec Committee Named Semifinalist

By Randy Thoms Oct 7, 2022 | 12:43 PM

The Nestor Falls Recreation Committee is hoping to take home one of the three $10 thousand prizes the Tbaytel for Good Community Fund contest is offering.

It is a semifinalist and is seeking public support in the online vote that is currently underway until October 18.

Committee Chair Alexis Reynolds says the money would go toward running various children’s events.

“Basically, we want to encourage children to explore their talents and not just sticking with their basic abilities. We kind of just organize activities that help promote that kind of growth mindset for our children,” says Reynolds.

That is what they have entitled their project.

Reynolds says winning one of the top prizes would avoid them having to turn to the business community for support.

“They do help us all the time, but with the last summer’s supercell storm and all the flooding and everything, we’re not getting that much tourism right now, so we’re just trying to lay off asking them for donations.”

Reynolds notes the programming offered by the Nestor Falls Recreation Committee to their small community is important.

There are no organized sports organizations, so families have to travel if they want their children to participate in an activity like hockey, soccer or gymnastics.

Reynolds says the rec committee looks to fill the void by offering as many non-profit community events as possible.

The committee has plans for a trivia night, a valentines dinner prepared by children and a kids fishing tournament for the early part of 2023.
