Halifax Regional Police have accused a man of breaking into a Dartmouth home and stabbing a dog last week.

A man called the police at around 11:40 p.m. on September 29th to turn himself in after the break-in on Windmill Road.

Police say investigators had already been searching for him after being told he had not returned to the East Coast Forensic Hospital as required.

The homeowner also reported the incident after they arrived at the residence shortly before midnight to find the home broken into and their pet hurt.

The dog was rushed to a nearby emergency animal hospital for treatment.

Bradley MacIntyre, 26, has been charged with break and enter, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, and causing an animal unnecessary suffering.

He was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Couty on Monday.
