The Fort Frances Lakers dropped a pair of games on the weekend to the Red Lake Miners in Red Lake.

They lost 4-3 Friday and 4-0 on Saturday.

Brandon Rosetti scored twice Friday night, with Clark Scadden adding the other.

The Lakers travel to Wisconsin on Tuesday for a game against the Lumberjacks.

The SIJHL has set October 21 and 22 in Superior, Wisconsin, as the dates and location of its annual showcase.

The University of Wisconsin-Superior ACHA team will join the seven SIJHL teams.

The Lakers will play Sioux Lookout and Kam River during the event.

 

There were a pair of high-scoring football games in high school football.

The Fort Frances Muskies got their first win of the season on Thursday with a 49-6 win over West Kildonan in their homecoming game.

Blake Kreger scored four touchdowns, including a game-ending 40-yard run.

Kel Cameron also scored a touchdown on the run.

Quarterback Parker Booth threw two touchdown passes to receiver Hayden Beckett.

Beckett also booted five converts and scored two singles on long kickoffs.

The Muskies are now 1-3 and travel to Winnipeg this Friday for a game against St. John’s High School.

 

In International Falls, the Broncos’ defence stopped a two-point conversion attempt with no time left to earn a 49-48 win over

Hinkley-Finlayson in their homecoming game on Friday night.

The Broncos took the lead with 15 seconds remaining on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Cody Joslyn to Charlie Greenlee.

Hinkley responded with a touchdown of their own, only to come up half a yard short on the two-point conversion attempt.

Greenlee’s touchdown was his second in the game.

Running back Cooper Crandal scored three times, including a 49-yard run in the second half.

Hendrix Torgerson and Kane Thompson also scored touchdowns.

Torgerson, Parker Olson and Jake Olson each had two-point conversions.

 

Camden Deedrick was tenth in the junior high boy’s race as the Broncos boys’ team finished fourth overall at a meet in Hibbing.

The varsity girls were ninth, with Abbi Hutchinson, the Broncos’ best runner placing 16th.

 

The Rainy River Voyageurs women’s volleyball team dropped straight-set matches to Itasca on Friday and to Central Lakes on Saturday.

Scores Friday were 12-25, 13-25 and 12-25.

Maddie Low had five kills and two ace blocks.

Cara Polk added 12 digs, with Zoe Adkins chipping in eight digs.

Scores Saturday were 16-25, 4-25 and 11-25.

Cyra Polk led with 19 digs.

Cara Polk had 15 digs and 7 set assists.

The Voyageurs are home to Hibbing on Wednesday.

 

Stock car racing continues south of the border.

Wyatt Boyum was third in a B-feature at ABC Speedway in Wisconsin.

 

Piper Miller had a goal and an assist for the Pilot Mound Buffalos under 18 female hockey team in a 4-3 loss to Okanagan in an exhibition tournament over the weekend.

 

On the sports schedule today, the Rainy River Owls travel to Atikokan for games against Northern Lakes in boys volleyball and girls basketball.

The Fort Frances Muskies golf teams are in Thunder Bay at the NWOSSA championships.

The International Falls Broncos volleyball teams are home to Chisholm.
