Snowmobile clubs in northern Ontario are getting some provincial money to improve their trails.

The work includes rerouting 25 kilometres of trail in the Atikokan area.

Borderland Snowmobile Club is moving an existing trail that uses the Little Turtle road between Mine Centre and Atikokan.

In all, more than $834 thousand has been provided to clubs across northern Ontario for various projects, from replacing existing bridges to development of new trails.

“Our government is supporting healthy and vibrant communities throughout the north by investing in important community recreational infrastructure,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development in a release. “This investment in snowmobile trail improvements is critical to providing a high quality of life for residents and will increase tourism, strengthening the local economy.”
