John Lohr the Minister responsible for Nova Scotia’s Emergency Management Office is calling on the federal government to provide more military resources to assist with Fiona’s recovery efforts.

Following cabinet meetings this morning Lohr was asked about the military resources currently present in Nova Scotia, although he didn’t have a specific number he emphasized that more are needed.

“I believe we had 475 troops deployed to assist us with Dorian and in my recent conversations with Minister (Bill) Bliar I’ve asked for 1,000 as I think this is twice the storm Dorian was.”

So far troops deployed to Nova Scotia have been used to help set up coordination centres around the province that are being used to spearhead relief efforts. They have also assisted local residents in need, clearing debris from roads, mitigating flooding, and many other tasks.

The federal government did not indicate that any additional troops have been mobilized in Nova Scotia at the time of the publication of this article.
