Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has viewed the devastation from Fiona in PEI and Nova Scotia.

He visited the Maritimes on Tuesday.

Trudeau says we need to learn from this experience, “The reality is extreme weather events are going to get more intense and more severe over the coming years, with climate change, and that means we are going to have to be thinking about how to make sure we are ready for what comes at us next.”

He says they will need to look at ways of building more resilient infrastructure for future weather events, “Making sure that we are adapting to it, making sure we are mitigating for it, making sure we are there to build and support people into the coming decades. These are lessons we have to focus on.”

He adds that there’s a lot more to learn and lots more to do.

“Seeing it on the ground, meeting families, seeing structural damage, it is really tough times out there, “Trudeau says. There’s a lot of anxiety, and a lot of hard work cleaning up, but we will be there for each other because that is what Canadians do,” Trudeau says.
