The Fort Frances Lakers have been awarded the win in their season opener with the Thunder Bay North Stars last Saturday.

The Lakers were beaten 8-1.

However, the SIJHL has determined the North Stars played the game with an ineligible player.

The team had initially not dressed the unnamed player but had them enter the game while it was in progress, believing they had received verbal approval to participate.

An investigation by the league revealed the proper approval had not been received, thus not eligible to play.

The Lakers were awarded a 1-0 win.

All individual player statistics arising from the game remain.

The league says no further sanctions will be issued against the North Stars, their personnel, or the player.
