Food Drive Underway

By Randy Thoms Sep 28, 2022 | 7:01 AM

The Bargain! Shop manager Dawn Gray (l) and Auxiliary Cpt. Arthur Heathcote with the Salvation Army Fort Frances discuss the food drive taking place at the Fort Frances store until Oct. 7, 2022

A food drive is underway in Fort Frances.

The Bargain! Shop is teaming up with the Salvation Army on the campaign.

Store manager Dawn Gray says they will be collecting food until October 7.

“We will be collecting donations in the store. We are accepting cash donations at the till. We’ll do two payouts. One after the first week and then one at the end of the second week, and then we’ll buy what the Salvation Army requires,” says Gray.

The drive is intended to help fill the Salvation Army’s food bank in advance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Store manager Dawn Gray says there are some stable items the agency is seeking.

“The Salvation Army has provided a list of canned meats, canned fruit, hot and cold cereals, dried pasta, Kraft dinner, canned soups, chunky soups, crackers and snack bars,” says Gray.

The Salvation Army’s Auxiliary Captain Arthur Heathcote says the drive is timely.

“Usually around this time of year is when the food bank shelves start to dwindle a little bit. So we really depend on our corporate partners like The Bargain! Shop to help out the community by putting on things like this,” says Heathcote.
