Tradition and celebration at the Moncton Coliseum, thanks to the Indo-Canada Greater Moncton Association and Gujarati Samaj New Brunswick.

The festival called Navratri begins on September 30.

It’s the first ever held in Moncton.

Ruchit Vachhrajani of the Gujarati Samaj New Brunswick says it’s based on a massive festival in India, with 100, 000, “We can meet people, we can have food and we can dance to the music. This is a very important festival. It is about celebrating together. You don’t need to know the steps or have the traditional clothing, it’s just about having fun.”

It is a Festival held in honour of the goddess Durga, and it is held for nine nights.

He says in Moncton, they will condense it to two nights and around 1000 people are expected to attend.

Vachhrajani says they have wanted to plan this festival here for a couple of years, but because of the pandemic, it had to be postponed.

He came to the country from Gujarati in 2017, “The locals have been so welcoming and that touched my heart.  With the Maritimes hospitality, we decided to move here,” Vachhrajani says.
