A former Saint Andrews mayor is being honoured by the Union of the Municipalities of New Brunswick.

Chris Flemming has received the Raymond Murphy Memorial Award for his dedication to the community.

Flemming served as mayor from 1998 to 2001, where he completed guiding documents of municipal plans and zoning bylaws.

He became chair of the Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) in 2004 and later chair of the Planning Review and Adjustment Committee, where he volunteered in these roles until 2012.

Flemming was asked to take on another term as chair of PAC when the town re-established the committee last year.

He was also one of the founding members of CHCO-TV, which launched in 1993. He continues to appear on programs to this date.

During his professional career, he taught French at Sir James Dunn Academy, shaping many minds in the community for more than 25 years until his retirement.

The Raymond Murphy Memorial Award was established in 2017 in honour and memory of the past president and executive director. It is presented annually to a volunteer from a member municipality who has shown outstanding dedication of their service to their municipality.
