Alternative music duo JJ Roots coming to Tri-Counties

Jocelyn Parlee and Jeff Scott Gray make up JJ Roots.

Fresh off the release of their second album, Euphoria, alternative music duo JJ Roots are taking their music on tour.

The first stop is here in the Tri-Counties, performing at the Salle Pere-Maurice-LeBlanc Theatre in Tusket on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Jocelyn Parlee and Jeff Scott Gray make up JJ Roots. Parlee comes from a country/classical background while Gray comes from a rock/metal background.

Parlee discussed their personal style of music.

“Kind of running from folk to country to pop to rock, a lot of the influences we have in our backgrounds absolutely bleeds into everything that we co-create,” says Parlee. “With Euphoria it leans more towards a contemporary roots style.”

The eight track album was released on July 16th. Parlee and Gray will be promoting the album on their Boxcars & Memories Tour.

The concert this Saturday in Tusket will also feature special opening guests Richard & Sue.

The new album was a bit of a departure for the artists, who spent two years developing some of the songs.

“With Euphoria, Jeff and I really changed out stylings and kind of opened ourselves up to different kinds of instruments, the piano being one of them.” says Parlee.

“Euphoria is a collection of songs that are piano based,” says Gray. “The key to what we do, we feel, is songwriting. It’s about the stories that are told and the musical landscapes we pair with those stories.”

Euphoria was originally supposed to release in May 2020. Because of the pandemic, the duo took time to learn new skills and write new material for the album.

More information about JJ Roots and Euphoria can be found on their website.
