A 58-year-old cyclist from Halifax has died following a crash on a Nova Scotia highway.

West Hants District RCMP, Walton Fire, and EHS responded to a report of the collision involving an SUV and a pedestrian on Highway 215 in Pembroke on Saturday at around 2:45 p.m.

Officers were told the car and bike collided as the cyclist was trying to cross the road.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt.

The Mounties say the driver of the SUV, a 64-year-old Pembroke man, was showing signs of impairment.

He was arrested at the scene and taken to the Windsor RCMP Detachment for a breath sample and later released pending further investigation.

The highway was closed for several hours due to the investigation.

Anyone with further information on the incident is asked to contact West Hants District RCMP at 902-798-2207. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers.
