The opening of Codiac RCMP’s community policing office in downtown Moncton has been delayed again.

Interim superintendent Ben Jolette told City Council it was hoped the office would have been open by now.

“Unfortunately we’re at the mercy of various things such as contracting for renovations, security clearance for the actual location and making sure that we have everything that we need to get into the building.”

Jolette said he doesn’t have a specific date for the opening of the new location at 795 Main Street, just a few blocks away from the main police detachment.

The office was originally expected to be open by summer and then it was delayed until fall.

He added the office will be a great launch pad for the community policing unit which recently expanded.

Establishing a second location for police was one of the action items stemming from a task force on homelessness and downtown security.
