A prisoner and corrections officer have been charged after an assault at the Burnside jail.

Halifax Regional Police were told about the incident at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility on July 17th.

They say the 47-year-old inmate threw bodily fluids on a correctional service officer, who then assaulted the man.

The prisoner was taken to the hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Thirty-six-year-old guard Ian MacNeil is facing charges of aggravated assault.

Sheldon Tremont Broome is facing charges of assault of a peace officer with a weapon.

Both are set to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
