King Proclaimed in Ontario

By Randy Thoms Sep 13, 2022 | 11:06 AM

King Charles the Third has officially been proclaimed in Ontario.

Lieutenant-Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell presided over an accession proclamation ceremony on Monday.

She was joined by Premier Doug Ford, members of cabinet, senior government officials and Indigenous leaders.

While the King automatically became Sovereign of Canada following the death of Queen Elizabeth, tradition calls for a proclamation of accession ceremony when a new sovereign inherits the throne.

This historic tradition dates back to the accession of King George the Third in 1760.
