If you get a parking ticket in the Halifax area, you’ll be paying $10 more.

Fines will cost $45 now, up from $35; if you pay within seven days, it’ll only cost you $40.

That took effect Monday, along with new changes to how you can pay for your parking.

Municipally-owned pay stations no longer let you swipe or insert your credit or debit card. Pay kiosks are going tap only.

You can still insert cash in the machine or link a credit card to the HotSpot mobile app.

Until Sept. 30, you can have your parking ticket absolved by showing you shopped at a local business on the date and approximate time of your parking violation.

Receipts are required to have your pay-station parking infraction waived.
