A strong year of growth continues in Saint John, according to new figures from the city’s One-Stop Development Shop.

Staff received 53 building and development-related permit applications in August worth $5.6 million.

That includes one “high-value” application worth $1.3 million for the new Popeyes restaurants on the east side.

The restaurant, which will be located on the site of the former 3Mile Steak and Rib House, is slated to open in 2023.

As of Aug. 31, the city has received 461 permit applications with a value of more than $74 million.

That is below the five-year average of $85 million for this time of year.
