A Halifax man is dead after an incident at Melmerby Beach in Pictou County.

It happened on Saturday afternoon in Little Harbour.

RCMP say a woman tried to save him but she also struggled in the water.

Other people at the beach ended up bringing them both to shore.

A 57-year-old Halifax man was later taken to hospital but had passed away.

The 64-year-old Halifax woman is in serious condition.

The investigation is ongoing and being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office.
