Save your pop cans and water bottles for cystic fibrosis research and treatment.

UNB Saint John is hosting a Shinerama bottle drive on Saturday.

Devin Debly is president of the Student Representative Council and he said they decided to move away from the event’s shoe-shining format.

“We felt that a lot of international students and students coming in, it might not be the greatest for them to end up shining people’s shoes. So we thought, let’s empower students, throw some music, play some games and have a bottle drive at the UNB Saint John parking lot.

The UNB Saint John bottle drive for Shinerama runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

All proceeds support Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

More than 20,000 student volunteers from over 30 Canadian universities and colleges join
in Shinerama fundraisers every year.

The funds raised by students throughout the years have significantly helped to improve the lives and lengthen the lifespans of those living with cystic fibrosis.

The campus has raised over $300,000 for the fight against cystic fibrosis since 1968.
