In his first address to the Commonwealth as monarch from Buckingham Palace, King Charles III paid tribute to his late mother, the Queen, and her lifelong promise of service.

“As you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this, thank you. Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years.”

The King solemnly pledged to carry on royal duties from his mother for the rest of his life.

“Whatever may be your background or beliefs, I shall endeavour to serve you with loyalty, respect and love as I have throughout my life.”

The King said his wife Camilla becomes Queen Consort in recognition of her own loyal public service since their marriage 17 years ago.

The King said his son William would become the Prince of Wales, with his wife Catherine becoming the Princess of Wales.

The King also expressed his love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.
