A lockdown alert issued on Tuesday for the Saint John campus of NBCC was a false alarm.

At about 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, multiple methods automatically distributed the alert.

Saint John Police responded to the Grandview Avenue campus and later determined there was no threat to safety and issued an all-clear at 11:14 a.m.

Staff from NBCC investigated the cause of the alarm with their service contractors.

They determined it was a false alarm resulting from a technical error in the public address system.

A statement released on Thursday said, “we have concluded that there was no malicious intent.”

System programming will be updated to eliminate the risk of this error happening again.

The statement goes on to say, “Safety is our priority. We are grateful for the cooperation of our staff, students, and visitors, as well as the support of Saint John Police, during this incident. We recognize that this was a stressful experience and apologize for this experience”.
