A 46-year-old man from River Philip, Nova Scotia has died in a two-vehicle collision near the Confederation Bridge.

Sackville RCMP, Port Elgin Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick were called to Highway 16 in Malden around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

RCMP believe an eastbound car crossed the centre line and hit a westbound pickup truck.

The driver of the car died at the scene while the pickup driver was taken to hospital with injuries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist and a member of the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office are assisting.

Highway 16 in the Malden area was closed for most of Wednesday with a detour in place but it reopened last night.
