More Codiac RCMP officers are joining the community policing unit this fall and heading to high schools.
Interim superintendent Ben Jolette told Moncton City Council there are now six officers assigned to each of Greater Moncton’s high schools.
“They won’t be in the school every single day. But they’ll have that same face and that same name available if there’s anything that they need to speak about,” he noted.
“What’s good is that it’s always going to be the same members. So they’ll be able to develop a relationship with the staff and the kids and have more of a presence.”
Jolette said police have also met with the superintendents of the two area school districts to discuss expectations for the school year.
He said modifying shifts for custodial staff has been discussed to make sure schools are safe when students arrive and he added police will respond as much as possible.
