The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg has activated their dry well relife program in response to an increase of reports from around the municipality of wells running dry.

Those with dry wells are now eligible to receive coupons that can be exchanged for water at local retailers.

Municipal residents can pick up coupons at the Municipal Office at Allée Champlain Drive (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday) or email info@modl.ca to receive electronic coupons and exchange them at various retail locations for water.

The program will provide residents with 4L of bottled water per person per day up to a maximum of four 4L jugs per day per household.

Coupons are good for a one-week period (Monday to Sunday) and will expire each Sunday for as long as the program is running. After expiration, new coupons can be picked up on a daily, weekly, or as-needed basis.

Effective immediately, coupons can be used at the following locations:

  •  New Germany Freshmart
  •  Nick’s Independent, Mahone Bay
  •  Sam’s No Frills, Bridgewater

The MODL is also making the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre available for showers during its operating hours.

The program will run indefinitely with the MODL planning to regularly asses the water needs of the community to determine if it’s still needed.

The municipalities of Chester and Queens which neighbour the MODL have also activated similar programs in recent weeks.
