Protesters clash with police over construction near Dartmouth wetland

By Steve MacArthur Sep 6, 2022 | 2:19 PM

A heavy police presence in Dartmouth stood guard over a housing development near the Eisner Cove Wetland.

Protesters have been trying to stop the project because it’s near a wetland and could be home to at-risk species.

Four people in the group were arrested on Tuesday morning.

A 45-year-old man, a 41-year-old man, a 27-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court to face one count each of obstruction.

The 57-year-old woman is also facing charges of assaulting an officer.

The group states they recognize housing is important but feel it could be built elsewhere.

The province is working to fast track building hundreds of housing units in the Southdale-Mount Hope and Penhorn area of Dartmouth
