Eating healthy foods is essential for the wellbeing of students and their education.

That’s why Nourish Nova Scotia is creating a School Food Fund to help feed students during the upcoming academic year. This fund will be needed at a time of inflation that will affect school food budgets.

Nourish Nova Scotia is a provincial non-profit group that provides support for school and community based healthy food programs through resources, advocacy, and food education. They supported these programs by providing training to breakfast program volunteers, giving gardening lessons, providing kid tested recipes to cafeteria workers, and by conducting various fundraisers. Much of their core funding comes from the provincial government as well as personal and corporate donations to fulfil its mandate.

The organization is continuing to pressure the federal government to create a national school food program, as Canada is currently the only G7 country without one.

They are not an emergency food organization, but as this school year begins many people have shown interest in making donations to support students that may not have access to healthy foods. You can show your support and learn more about the fund online at: Donate to Nova Scotia School Food Programs (fundmetric.com)
