Dozens of firefighters battle overnight blaze in Lunenburg County

By Evan Taylor Aug 30, 2022 | 6:33 AM

Over ten fire departments were called to a house fire in Pinegrove during the early hours on Tuesday.

Oakhill Fire Department took the lead on the call which came in around 1:30 a.m., upon their first arrival the house was engulfed in flames and the decision to reach out to other departments was made immediately.

“There was a high risk of the fire spreading to surrounding trees and structures so we knew we would need help in preventing that,” said Oakhill Fire Cheif Corey Zinc.

A woman and her two children were in the house when the fire broke out but Zinc says they were able to get out safely thanks to smoke alarms. “That’s really what we want to hammer home on this one, the working smoke alarms helped this family get out safely and that’s why it’s important that every home have functioning detectors.”

The fire rendered the home uninhabitable with about a third of it completely burned down and the other remaining portions are significantly burnt.

The fire has been deemed accidental, though the specific cause has yet to be determined.
