The Aberdeen Hospital is temporarily closing its doors to women in labour.

Public Health says the women and children’s unit at the New Glasgow hospital will be shut down between 8 a.m. Wednesday until 8 a.m. Thursday.

Pregnant patients expecting to deliver in the next few days will be contacted directly.

A team will be available for emergency or unplanned deliveries, so women in labour are advised to head to the hospital.

However, they may then be sent to another hospital in Truro or Antigonish.

“Nova Scotia Health apologizes to all patients and families who are affected by this situation,” a news release says. “Patient concerns arising from the service interruption that require follow-up, are encouraged to please contact us through our patient relations line by calling toll-free 1-844-884-4177 or by email to patientfeedback@nshealth.ca.”
