While tourism in Southeast New Brunswick is still not back to pre-pandemic levels, visitor traffic has been strong this summer.

Destination Moncton-Dieppe CEO Jillian Somers says a big challenge this year is finding staff and many businesses are facing a shortage of employees.

“Limited operating hours for some businesses or hotels not being able to open to full capacity. While the staff issue is not unique to the tourism industry, it is especially challenging.”

Somers says the tourism industry is going to have to come together to find solutions.

“That is going to be something that we’re going to have to work with as a whole and probably arm in arm with other industries to figure out how we can attract more staff and more talent.”

Somers says the goal is to increase visitor traffic in the region and the only way that can work is to have enough staff employed in the industry.
