Irving Nature Park Marks 30th Anniversary

By Brad Perry Aug 26, 2022 | 6:50 AM

It is gearing up to be a busy weekend at the Irving Nature Park in Saint John.

The park, located on the city’s west side, will mark its 30th anniversary.

Several events are scheduled to take place throughout the day on Saturday.

Site manager Nancy Perry said they are excited to celebrate such a huge milestone.

“Speaking with our regulars that walk the park and have been walking it for many, many years, they’re excited that we’re able to celebrate such a great day,” Perry said in an interview.

A representative from Stonehammer Geopark will be on site to educate visitors about the geological history of the park.

There will also be the opportunity to learn about the thousands of shorebirds that migrate through the park each year.

Visitors can also stop by the kiosk to learn about how staff help monarch butterflies make their way through the park every year.

Perry said more than 300,000 people visit the park each year, and that number has remained strong throughout the pandemic.

“We’re noticing that our numbers are quite high. In fact, this year, we had a day where we had over 4,000 visitors in one day,” she said.
