UPDATE issued at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 25th.

The municipality says Kearney Lake Beach has reopened to swimming.

It was recently closed after test results showed high bacteria levels in the water. They exceeded Health Canada swimming guidelines.

The city says follow-up tests now show the water is once again safe for a swim.

You might want to drop your flip-flops and beach towel if you’re on the way for a swim at Kearney Lake Beach.

The municipality has announced the beach is shut down to swimming due to high bacteria levels in the water.

Recent test results show bacteria levels exceed Health Canada swimming guidelines.

The spike in bacteria can be caused by many factors including dogs, birds, wildlife, and high temperatures.

Staff will continue testing the water and will let us know when it’s safe to head back there for a dip.

Several beaches in the HRM are currently closed including Cunard Lake Beach, Oakfield Park Beach, Kinap Beach, and Penhorn Lake Beach.
