A small island fire on Rainy Lake is among three new forest fires reported by the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services on Monday.

It occurred about 26 kilometres north of Fort Frances and has since been declared out.

There were also small fires near Mishkeegogamang and Weagamow Lake First Nations.

The fire near Weagamow is being observed as it is causing no concern.

The forest fire hazard is mostly low to the east of Thunder Bay, with some exceptions.

It is moderate between Mine Centre and Rainy River toward Sioux Narrow but high around Fort Frances.

It is predominately moderate in the Far North region and to the east of Thunder Bay, with pockets of low and high hazard areas.
