The Weekender: Return Of The Wedgeport Tuna Tournament

In this week’s edition of The Weekender, the Wedgeport Tuna Tournament and Festival is happening this week. We speak with Special Events Coordinator Baylee Surette and Board member Callie Doucette about this week’s schedule, as the festival returns to normal post-pandemic.

The Great Cycle Challenge raises money for kids dealing with cancer across Canada. A Digby-area cyclist is taking part. Jakob Postlewaite talks to Dr. Neil Pothier about his fundraising efforts.

And, the Southwest Nova Pride Association is planning a pride festival next month. We speak with organizers Lynette Hayward-Byrd and Alden Mathieu on plans for the first pride event in Yarmouth since 2019.

The Weekender is an award-winning news program produced by Y95 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The show tells the stories of the Tri-Counties – in-depth interviews, background stories, looks at the local entertainment and music scenes and so much more. It is our finger on the pulse of the region that includes Yarmouth, Digby, and Shelburne.

There are now many ways to listen to the program. It originally airs Saturday at 9 a.m. on 95.5 CJLS in Yarmouth, 93.5 in Digby, and 96.3 in Shelburne.

On The Weekender website, you can listen to individual interviews. And beginning this week, it’s being uploaded as a podcast. You can listen through the embedded player at the top of this story, or you find the show on podcast platforms like Apple and Spotify.
