Concern is being expressed about the condition of a bailey bridge on Highway 602.

The bridge, east of Bone Road, was reconstructed about a decade ago.

Resident Les Kaun told Alberton township council the structure has since dropped 34 inches, creating a hazard for motorists.

“In the last five to seven years, they’ve been engineering this bridge to keep it there for five or seven years. It’s obvious that the answer is, it’s not engineerable,” says Kaun.

Kaun adds the guide rails are so low that they no longer protect a vehicle from leaving the roadway and going into the ravine.

Photos provided by Kaun also show the bridge slipping underneath.

He feels the structure needs to be removed and a new one or new culvert be put in its place.

Council is now planning to address the concerns with the Ministry of Transportation.
