Another Gold For N.B. At Canada Summer Games

Another medal for Team New Brunswick at the Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ont.

Para-athlete Christel Robichaud of Grande-Digue won gold in the female para shot put on Tuesday.

Team New Brunswick now has 11 medals at the Games — two gold, two silver, and seven bronze.

Competition began Tuesday for canoe kayak, athletics, road cycling, volleyball, men’s softball, and men’s lacrosse.

Kyra Hector of Quispamsis and Jon Magee of Rothesay each finished ninth in their respective women’s and men’s kayak K1 500 m. New Brunswick kayakers return to the water on Wednesday.

Women’s road cycling time trials saw Émilie McIntyre of Memramcook place 21st, Laurence Arseneau of Moncton finish 24th, and Florence Levesque of Dieppe place 30th.

On the men’s side, Noah Lydon of Fredericton finished 15th, Maxime Ouellette of Grand Falls placed 37th, Colby Sirois of Grand Falls finished 38th, and Pascal LeBlanc of Notre-Dame-de-Kent placed 39th.

Men’s softball action saw Team New Brunswick lose 16-0 to Saskatchewan and 14-2 to Nova Scotia. They will play Newfoundland Labrador and Alberta on Wednesday.

In volleyball, British Columbia defeated both New Brunswick teams 3-1 on Tuesday. The men and women will face Alberta on Wednesday.

Men’s box lacrosse returned to the Canada Games on Tuesday after a 37-year absence. New Brunswick lost 5-3 to Manitoba and will face Quebec and Saskatchewan in a pair of games on Wednesday.
