It was a rude awakening for some people in southeastern Maine early Wednesday morning.

A 3.0 magnitude was recorded near Centerville, Maine, just before 4 a.m. Atlantic.

That is located about 60 kilometres southwest of the border community of Calais.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) says the earthquake occurred at a depth of five kilometres.

No reports of any damage occurring as a result of the quake.

USGS has recorded 10 earthquakes in that area over the past week, four of which were 2.5-magnitude or stronger. Five of the earthquakes occurred last Thursday.
