Seniors housing development to be built in Milton

By Evan Taylor Aug 16, 2022 | 6:00 AM

Eric Fry a developer from Halifax is undertaking a seniors housing project in Queens County that he hopes will offer ideal living for recent retirees.

“In speaking with the Municipality it was brought up that there was a need for more housing for seniors, so we’ve just recently purchased some land that was formerly part of Garika Park,” said Fry.

Fry says they are planning to build a 15-unit apartment complex that will fit in with the natural beauty of the area. “We plan to make it so all 15 units will have views of the Mersey River and we are trying to capture that park feel that exists now, we just want it to be a relaxing place where people can enjoy their lives,”.

The senior living complex will be built at the site of Garika Park in Milton, NS. Photo: Google.

The units will be two-bedroom apartments, that will be accessible with an elevator, and although exact pricing details are still to be determined Fry estimated they would be listed for around $1,750.

The building is intended for those who can still independently care for themselves.

The Region of the Municipality of Queens recently signed off on the land purchase and Fry says they are now working on a development agreement. The property will also need to be rezoned a process which Fry has been told by the Municipality should take around 90 days.
