UPDATE: Vandalism Behind Massive Power Outage

By Allan Dearing Aug 11, 2022 | 5:20 PM

New Brunswick RCMP are asking the public for help as they investigate a significant power outage.

On Wednesday night shortly after 8:30 p.m., NB Power was notified of a power outage that affected about 50,000 customers at its peak.

Power crews traced the source to a tree that had fallen on a transmission line in Moncton near McLaughlin Drive and the Trans-Canada Highway.

When crews arrived, they found that the tree had been deliberately cut down.

NB Power notified Codiac RCMP on Thursday morning.

Anyone who has any information about how the tree was cut is asked to contact Codiac RCMP at 506-857-2400.

Police also want to hear from anyone who witnessed suspicious activity between 8 and 10 p.m. or anyone who may have video or pictures from the area during that time.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca
