Two More Medals For Para Swimmer Jesse Canney

Jesse Canney continues to wrack up the hardware for New Brunswick at the Canada Summer Games.

The para swimmer from Durham Bridge picked up two more medals at the Canada Summer Games on Tuesday.

He won silver in the men’s 100-metre backstroke para and bronze in the men’s 100-metre freestyle.

Canney has won all four of New Brunswick’s medals so far at this year’s Summer Games.

Combined with his three medals from the 2017 Games, Canney now has a total of seven.

That makes him Team New Brunswick’s most decorated Canada Games athlete, surpassing wheelchair para-athlete Veronica Coombes who has six.

In other action on Tuesday, Team New Brunswick’s wrestlers hit the mats in team competition. They will continue Wednesday to determine placing for potential medal bouts Thursday.

The women’s basketball team defeated Nova Scotia 66-64 while the men’s team lost 77-74 against Saskatchewan. The women will play the Northwest Territories on Wednesday.

The women’s box lacrosse split two games, defeating Saskatchewan 5-3, and losing 7-1 to Manitoba.

New Brunswick’s tennis squad won a tie-breaker against Manitoba by a score of 4-3.

Beach volleyball action saw the men’s team fall to Manitoba 2-1, while the women’s team lost to Quebec 2-0.

Our rugby sevens team lost both of their games on Tuesday. They fell to Alberta 22-10 and Nova Scotia 31-5.

In baseball, Team New Brunswick fell to Newfoundland 9-7. They play against Prince Edward Island on Wednesday.

There are also several swimming events taking place Wednesday, including the women’s and men’s 4 x 100 m medley relays. Also on the schedule are the women’s and men’s mountain bike team relays.
