Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Sold Out

This year’s Fort Frances Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony is a sell-out.

All 200 tickets available have been accounted for.

Three athletes, four builders and two teams will be inducted with their plaques to don the Wall of Fame at the Memorial Sports Centre at a later date.

The athletes inducted include the late Danny Johnson, who played in both the NHL and WHA and captained the WHA’s Winnipeg Jets iduring the 1974-75 season, his last as a player.

Swimmer Kelly Lyons and Special Olympian Danny Smith are also being inducted.

The Builders Category inductees include long-time minor hockey coach and one of the leaders in the Ice for Kids Arena campaign Dave Egan; the 1991 – 1993 Fort Frances Curling Club Committee for getting a new club built; the late Herman Guimond, a prominent figure in hockey from the 1940s to the ’80s in the Fort Frances and Couchiching First Nation area; and former high-school hockey coach Terry Ogden, who guided Muskies’ teams to two provincial championships and three silver medals.

The teams being recognized are the 1989 Plaza Lanes Bantam Girls Bowling Team that won the Canadian championship and the 1986 Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team that won the OFSAA championship.

The ceremony is taking place this Saturday.
