RCMP in Lunenburg County arrested two men over the weekend after they attempted to break into a home and assault the homeowner in Lilydale.

The RCMP were first notified of the incident around 5:30 p.m. on August 6, when they were told that two men had arrived at a home on Northwest Road in a vehicle and attempted to assault the 41-year-old owner. One of the men also produced a knife and threatened the victim with it.

The victim was able to escape the men as he fled to another outbuilding on the property.

At 8:05 p.m. an RCMP officer on patrol spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the one used in the attempted break-in and they subsequently performed a road stop.

The officer noted signs of impairment being displayed by the driver, a 42-year-old Lunenburg man, who was then tested at the scene – which he failed.

Both men were transported to the Bridgewater Detachment where they were held in custody. As part of the impaired driving investigation, the 42-year-old man provided samples of breath that registered 80mg%.

David MacPherson, 42, of Lunenburg, has been charged with the following:

  • Assault with a Weapon;
  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance;
  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance – 80mg% or more;
  • Breach of Probation

Bryce Brooks, 28, of Lunenburg, has been charged with the following:

  •  Assault with a Weapon

Both of the accused were remanded into custody and appeared in Bridgewater Provincial Court on August 8, where they were released, by the court, on conditions.

They now both have court dates scheduled for late August.
